Latest Eagles mock draft would be a bad sign for Jalen Hurts's uncertain future

That would not be good for him.

All offseason, everyone has been questioning Jalen Hurts' future as the Philadelphia Eagles' starting quarterback beyond the 2026 season.

Multiple reports have come out with sources criticizing Hurts as being uncoachable and calling his own plays in the huddle. It has led many to think that if he doesn't improve this season, then he might be out the door and replaced, or at least his future replacement will be selected in the 2027 NFL Draft. Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski believes this will be the case as he has the Eagles taking Minnesota quarterback Drake Lindsey with the 23rd overall pick in his mock draft.

"With Brown gone, Jalen Hurts must show he can bounce back from last year's wildly inconsistent campaign. If he doesn't, the Eagles should look at other options. Minnesota's Drake Lindsey provides Philadelphia with a long runway. The 20-year-old prospect is expected to show significant growth during his second season as starter. But the flashes were apparent last year. The 6'5", 230-pound quarterback has a big arm to threaten all three levels. More consistency will increase his draft value, while the Eagles can realistically get out of Hurts' deal in 2028."

Jalen Hurts' eventual replacement might be found in the 2027 NFL Draft

Last season, Lindsey completed over 63% of his passes for 2,382 yards and 18 touchdowns to six interceptions. If he can put up bigger numbers in 2026, then he will be a lock to be a first-round pick next offseason.

Lindsey is a different type of quarterback as he does his damage from inside the pocket. Bringing him on would be a completely different style of quarterback compared to Hurts' athletic ability.

Too many people have lost hope in Hurts, which is shocking, since he threw only six interceptions last season, made the Pro Bowl, and still led the Eagles to the playoffs despite the dysfunction all around him. Granted, he was not perfect, with a 64% completion percentage and two halves this season when he didn't complete a pass, but he is still a proven winner who keeps his team in games.

If he struggles in a proven system like the one new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion is bringing in, then there will be questions. The wide receiver room is as deep as ever, despite A.J. Brown being traded, and other offenses like the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco 49ers, and Green Bay Packers run the scheme that has made them successful for years.

It's unfortunately the hand that Hurts is being dealt with and has to prove himself again, or someone like Lindsey will be stepping through the doors to replace him.
