The New York Giants have had quite the offseason with their coaching staff, which makes the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coaching staff changes less bad on paper.
New York's latest hire shows they are trying to break through with a solid hire, as they are bringing in former Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan as the new quarterbacks coach and passing game coordinator, according to NFL insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
Callahan had a rough two-year stint with the Titans, going 4-19 before being fired six games into the 2025 season. He was 3-14 in his first season as the head coach in 2024.
Eagles feeling pretty good about their situation compared to the Giants
While many would argue that the Giants hit a home run with John Harbaugh as their head coach, the assistant coaching staff has taken some hilarious stumbles for New York. Harbaugh lost out on Todd Monken to be the offensive coordinator, so he had to settle for former Eagles assistant and Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy as the OC.
Granted, the Eagles' offensive coordinator search was not the smoothest, but at least there's a good chance Philly will have a more innovative offense than New York will. Nagy was spoiled with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City over the last few years as offensive coordinator. Callahan only had Joe Burrow with the Cincinnati Bengals when he was OC before the Titans head coach job, and those offenses weren't on the same level as the styles that Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan have in terms of scheme creativity.
There's a lot of hope that Eagles' new OC Sean Mannion can change things up in Philly, make it less one-dimensional, and open up the offense. This should take the pressure off of Saquon Barkley and the offensive line and let Jalen Hurts do more with the offensive play calls.

New York can keep hiring those former head coaches who failed, while the Eagles go younger and more innovative with their offense.
