The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to find their guy for the offensive coordinator job, but that might be complicated by other openings in the league.

One of the reported top candidates for the Eagles is former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. He is one name at the top of everyone's list for offensive coordinator jobs, as most NFL teams would kill to have McDaniel run their offense.

Sports Illustrated NFL insider Albert Breer wrote a long piece going over what he is hearing around the NFL. Breer discussed McDaniel and where he thinks the former head coach will be headed.

"Mike McDaniel has made the rounds, and if I had to guess, he’ll probably wind up as an offensive coordinator in the next week or so," Breer said via Sports Illustrated. "I’ve heard Tampa Bay could be a good spot for him, and that, if he does a good job, he could be set up to be Todd Bowles’s eventual successor."

McDaniel had done a great job with the Dolphins' offense over the last few years. He's been the head coach after taking them to the playoffs in each of his first two seasons. What makes him great for the Eagles' offensive coordinator job is how McDaniel changed his style from a pass-first to a run-first offense last year in Miami, and it helped them. It's a similar approach to the one Kellen Moore took with the Eagles in 2024, which helped them make the Super Bowl.

With Bowles on the hot seat for not making the playoffs with the Buccaneers, it's easy to see how the Buccaneers' job could be more appealing. Plus, getting a chance to work with quarterback Baker Mayfield and that offense would be pretty solid with McDaniel.

On paper, though, the Eagles have all the talent in the world on offense that McDaniel can have a lot of fun with. The problem was Kevin Patullo not knowing how to use them properly, so it resulted in the unit finishing in the bottom 15 in all major offensive categories, including passing, rushing, total offense, and points.

Philly can't afford to miss out on McDaniel, as they haven't even gotten a first-round interview with him yet. The head-coach route is still a possibility, but given that the Buccaneers are the Eagles' top competitor for McDaniel, the Eagles need to be aggressive in getting him if they want him badly enough.
