One of the most heartbreaking moments of the Philadelphia Eagles' 2026 offseason was former offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland stepping away from the team after 13 years.
A new era has begun with former Vikings offensive line coach Chris Kuper joining the Eagles in the same job. Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni spoke to the media about how the offensive linemen and team in general are adjusting to life without Stoutland.
“What’s important is that regardless of carryover, regardless of everything, what’s important that everyone needs to do at this time of year is start back at square one and build our habits from square one," Sirianni said via Eagles reporter Anthony DiBona. "We do that with our fundamentals. We do that with our schemes. We do that with our core values.”
Eagles begin first season in 13 years without Jeff Stoutland there
Stoutland will go down as one of the best assistant coaches in NFL history, purely based on the work he did with the Eagles' offensive line and his consistent ability to build one of the best rushing attacks year after year. He has produced and coached future Hall of Famers such as Jason Kelce, Lane Johnson, Jason Peters, Evan Mathis, Jordan Mailata, Brandon Brooks, Landon Dickerson, Cam Jurgens, and many more.
Kuper has the impossible task of following in Stoutland's footsteps and getting this offensive line back on track. Another big part of Kuper's job will be to develop Eagles third-round pick Markel Bell into the eventual successor to Johnson.
There are still some really good pieces to the offensive line, and they are relatively young, with four of the five starters under the age of 30. Johnson is the only one older, but even in his mid 30s, he's arguably the best offensive tackle in the NFL when he is healthy.

Eagles fans still miss Stoutland and hope Kuper can achieve the same kind of success their former longtime coach did.
