Eagles' 2025 headache doesn't have much attention (but how is his camp going?)

Philadelphia Eagles training camp has been mainly focused on how the new-look offense is doing and how great the defense has been.

The offense has been inconsistent at best, with the highs being great to see Jalen Hurts connecting with guys like Dontayvion Wicks and Darius Cooper, but the lows showing how out of sync the unit is early on. Philly's defense seems to have the front seven that will be in the top five, and the safety position is giving everyone more confidence than imagined.

There is one position and player in particular that hasn't gotten as much reporting, and Eagles fans need to know more about it. It's someone who is coming off one of their worst years and whose back is up against the wall in 2026.

Eagles fans need more information on Jake Elliott's training camp performance

Last year was a nightmare for Eagles kicker Jake Elliott and his performance for the team. Elliott made 20-of-27 field goals (74.1%), the second-lowest of his career. There was a stretch late in the season where he missed field goals in four of five games.

Entering training camp, no competition was brought in for him, and he even got a restructured deal for the 2026 season in the offseason. So, how has Elliott done so far in training camp?

Well, there really isn't much reporting on how he has been doing. Late in July, at the beginning of training camp, The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane reported that Elliott made 6-of-7 field goals, with the longest being from 46 yards out. Elliott missed a 40-yard field goal, hooking it left.

This week, the Eagles media had a chance to talk to the team's special teams coordinator, Michael Clay, about Elliott's progress. Clay said the biggest thing he is focused on with his kicker is body language.

"For him, it was just resetting. And you never want to see guys— I look a lot at body language. You never want to see them kind of get out of sorts in terms of their body language. So for me, me and him to having our own personal talks, I think he's done a really good job up since that in terms of his body language being better, you know, and not necessarily getting down on himself on things he can't control. Control what you can control, and if you're able to be on top of that, there's going to be things in life you can't control."

This seems to be the central theme of Elliott's offseason. It's all about getting his confidence back and finding the old kicker who was nailing over 90% of his field goals just a few years ago. It really shouldn't be the kind of conversation to have around a kicker who has been in the league for a decade now.

From the limited reporting so far, it sounds like Elliott might be in the same place as last year and has some things to work on with long-distance field goals. He'd better get that straightened out before the regular season, or it'll be another long season of disappointing field goals from their kicker.
