Every single Philadelphia Eagles fan knew by the halfway point of the season that Kevin Patullo just wasn't going to work out as the offensive coordinator. The organization might have known that fact as well.

A new report by Bleeding Green Nation's Joseph Santoliquito shares that the Eagles knew late in the season that it wasn't going to work out with Patullo. In fact, they made a call for a candidate even before the season ended.

"Bleeding Green Nation has learned that the Eagles were inquiring about then-Ole Miss/now-LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis, Jr. weeks before the season was over," Santoliquito detailed in his article.

"And though the Eagles “officially” announced Patullo would no longer be the team’s offensive coordinator in an announcement by Nick Sirianni on Tuesday, multiple SEC sources confirmed the Eagles were serious about Weis, Jr. before the announcement was public, enough to make arrangements for him to fly into Philadelphia to interview at the NovaCare Complex possibly as soon as next week."

Eagles are truly interested in Charlie Weis Jr. for the job

There sure is a lot of smoke in Philly around Charlie Weis Jr., the son of former Notre Dame and Kansas head coach Charlie Weis Sr., who is now the Eagles' new offensive coordinator. He's had a ton of success at Ole Miss over the last two years with Jaxson Dart and the Rebels' playoff run.

The big connection to Weis and the Eagles right now is right at the most important player on the roster: Jalen Hurts. Weis was with Alabama as an offensive assistant when Hurts was the quarterback, so he would go into Philly knowing how to use the franchise signal caller properly and how to develop him.

All the talk has been on the Eagles wanting someone who has been an offensive coordinator before and can take full control of the offense with no interference from head coach Nick Sirianni. Some of the big names mentioned as candidates include Mike McDaniel and Brian Daboll.

While Weis is experienced as an offensive coordinator, the transition from college to the pros would be an interesting challenge for the Eagles in a big year when they need to take a massive step forward.
