The hype is real after the Philadelphia Eagles signed Jalen Carter to his contract extension.
Carter got a four-year, $152 million contract extension with $106 million guaranteed. It's the biggest contract for a defensive tackle in NFL history.
Some might be surprised to see the Eagles sign him for that much after reports surfaced that the franchise was hesitant to give him a long-term deal. The combination of his character and recent injury history might have put a pause on it, but general manager Howie Roseman did not see it that way.
"Since Jalen's been here, he's put his head down, he's worked hard, he's made huge impact plays for this organization, for this team," Roseman said. "Last year he wasn't 100%. He tried to fight through that and play through that. We understand that. Like anyone, when you're, when you're 25 years old, you're still growing as a person and as a player."
Roseman said the team typically likes to get extensions done in March or April, but the defensive tackle market was all over the place. Once that was settled, they were able to get the deal done.
Eagles love having Jalen Carter on a long-term contract
Carter is a two-time Pro Bowl selection in his three-year NFL career. Despite a down season in 2025, he still had a good year, racking up 33 tackles, 12 quarterback hits, seven pass deflections, five tackles for loss, three sacks, and one block in 11 games.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was asked about having Carter back and was happy with the new deal. Sirianni celebrated his young star getting the deal and is looking forward to having him play.
"I've really enjoyed getting to know Jalen more and more each year and the time that I've spent with him. And he's put his head down. He's worked. He's made impactful plays. And we look for that to continue."
The Eagles also gave fellow defensive tackle Jordan Davis a record-breaking contract extension in the offseason. That left the Eagles with the future of the defensive line intact for the next five years.

Philly is in a really good position for the future with Carter hanging around for a long time. The Eagles now need to see him on the practice field looking like the old Carter fans saw back in 2024 and playing elite football.
