With the 2025 season complete, fresh off the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl victory, CBS Sports writer Garrett Podell picked several teams that he believes will have fallout from their 2025 season, which unfortunately included the Philadelphia Eagles.
Podell notes that since 1990, at least four playoff teams from the previous year have failed to return, with 2025 seeing the most turnover in recent history. He believes the Eagles could be one of those teams after their Wild Card loss to the San Francisco.
Eagles could be in for a down season in 2026
The Eagles' offseason is already off to a "hot start," with rumors of Vic Fangio retiring swirling around the building, the removal of Kevin Patullo, and replaced him with Sean Mannion. Additionally, longtime offensive line coach and one of the best at his craft, Jeff Stoutland, resigned, and secondary coach Christian Parker joined the Dallas Cowboys as their defensive coordinator.
With a coaching staff changeover, the Eagles on the field are also in a bit of a transition. The Eagles are in Year 3 with Saquon Barkley, who regressed massively in Year 2, and he has a contract that runs through the end of 2028, his age-31 season. Coupled with the loss of Jeff Stoutland, an aging Lane Johnson, and plenty of financial questions with contracts, the Eagles are primed to have a 2026 season that could be filled with disappointment.
The 2026 Eagles will have to lean on Jalen Hurts to shoulder the majority of the load this season, coming off a 2025 season where he produced some of his worst numbers statistically. His 2025 season definitely produced some high-level moments, leading to DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown surpassing 1,000 receiving yards. Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert has scored 11 receiving touchdowns, but his inconsistent play has raised questions about his ability to elevate this Eagles team rather than manage it.

The 2025 Eagles team had high expectations that ultimately led to an underwhelming season. With issues dominating their roster, their coaching staff, along with off-the-field items like Brown's future with the team, it is entirely possible to see the 2026 Eagles see a massive fall off, the first time under head coach Nick Sirianni.
