There are a lot of coaching openings in the NFC East, including the Philadelphia Eagles, which are looking for a new offensive coordinator.

The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders have openings at defensive coordinator, and there's been a lot of talk on who could fill that position. One candidate has now interviewed with both those Eagles fans will be very familiar with, and very much hoping will land one of those jobs.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that the Commanders brought in former Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator and Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon in to interview for the open defensive coordinator role. This will be the second NFC East team Gannon has interviewed for the defensive coordinator position, as he also spoke with the Cowboys. Gannon was fired from the Cardinals' head coaching job after just three seasons there.

Eagles could realistically see Gannon twice a season in the NFC East

It's a shame that when Eagles fans talk about Gannon, it's in such a negative light, because it wasn't always bad with him. In fact, in 2022, when the Eagles made the Super Bowl, Gannon's unit ranked second in the NFL in yards allowed.

The Super Bowl loss turned off Eagles fans with Gannon, as his defense surrendered 38 points to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in the three-point loss. What made it all worse is that the Cardinals tampered with Gannon and pretty much gave him the head coach job before the Super Bowl, which caused a ton of controversy as he got the job right after the game.

Since then, Eagles fans have not been able to forgive Gannon and have only played him once. The Cardinals got the Eagles in the middle of their 2023 late-season collapse, and Gannon got the best of Philly with a 35-31 win over the Eagles.

Everyone in Philadelphia wants Gannon to earn one of the defensive coordinator jobs in the NFC East, so there is always a revenge game on the calendar twice a year for Eagles fans to enjoy.
