Last season felt like a bad dream despite the Philadelphia Eagles winning the NFC East for the second straight year and still making the playoffs.
The early Wild Card exit and a horrific-looking offense pushed the Eagles to make dramatic changes to the coaching staff and roster during the offseason, but were they enough to make the 2026 season better for Philly? Bleacher Report NFL writer Brad Gagnon shared one sentence that would describe a nightmare 2026 season for every team, with the Eagles being all about the offense.
"Saquon Barkley continues to decline, exposing Jalen Hurts, who struggles mightily with Makai Lemon learning the ropes as A.J. Brown's de facto replacement."
Eagles' offense could determine a dream or nightmare 2026 season
There were a lot of changes to the offense that could make this go well or be as bad as last season. The biggest change was at offensive coordinator with Sean Mannion taking over and bringing a whole new scheme to Philly.
It's another season in which Hurts has to learn a new offense, as he has had a different playcaller every single year through college and in the pros over the last 10 years. He's used to it, though, so it shouldn't be a problem, but the 2026 season also has more pressure on Hurts to play better after the offseason reports that came out about him.
Barkley saw a massive regression as he only got about 60% of the rushing yards in 2025 that he had in 2024 after rushing for over 2,000 yards two seasons ago. He faces his own pressure to play well, as if he has another down year, and the Eagles might have to start making some tough decisions in the backfield in the offseason.
The wide receiver room is almost completely made over with eyes on first-round pick Makai Lemon and whether he has what it takes to replace A.J. Brown. Philly also added Marquise "Hollywood" Brown, Elijah Moore, and Dontayvion Wicks to give the Eagles what should be a deep position room. Even more than that, though, is whether DeVonta Smith is truly ready to be the number one receiver on the team with A.J. Brown pretty much out of the picture.

While the offensive line and tight end rooms also have their share of questions, if the Eagles can't get great production from Mannion, Hurts, Barkley, and the Smith-Lemon combo, this could be a very, very long season.
