Eagles' fourth reported second-round interview won't move the needle for fans

At this point, Philadelphia Eagles fans might just be getting over the offensive coordinator search and just want it to end, but another development is in for the second round interviews.

NFL insider Mike Garafolo reported that Houston Texans quarterback coach Jerrod Johnson came in for his second interview with the Eagles. Johnson has already spoken with the Eagles, as this is the only reported offensive coordinator job he is interviewing for.

This would be the fourth second-round interview the Eagles have completed with candidates. Johnson now joins Sean Mannion, Jim Bob Cooter, and Josh Grizzard as coaches who have gone through two rounds of the interview process.

Would Jerrod Johnson make sense for the Eagles' OC job?

It doesn't seem like play-calling or offensive coordinator experience is required for the job. If the Eagles feel there is potential with the coach and they can bring innovation to the scheme that head coach Nick Sirianni wants to run, then go for it.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said there is a possibility Sirianni could call the plays for the offense. Sirianni hasn't done that since 2021, and it didn't work out too well, leading to Shane Steichen taking over, and the rest is history.

This search has not been smooth for fans, as the Eagles have conducted nearly 20 interviews to find the right candidate and are hoping one of them sticks soon enough. At the same time, they are okay with taking their time to find the right candidate, even if it means that a few, like Mike McDaniel and Brian Daboll, take other jobs.

As to the earlier question proposed about Johnson being a good offensive coordinator, that's a bit of a toss-up. While he has done some good things for Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud early in his career, the last two years have seen some regression, which is a scary thought since Eagles fans are not ready to see any regression from Jalen Hurts.

Eagles fans are staying open to any idea at this point, but the candidate pool right now will not excite anyone from Philly.
