Everyone has been waiting to hear about who the Philadelphia Eagles are going to hire as offensive coordinator. They dropped some coaching news that will make fans forget for a second how many candidates have dropped out of the race for the job.
NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe reported that the Eagles have promoted safeties coach Joe Kasper to defensive backs and defensive pass game coordinator. Christian Parker had held both positions over the last two years before taking the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator job last week.
Kasper was the Eagles' defensive quality control coach in 2021 and 2022 before joining Vic Fangio in Miami to be the Dolphins' safeties coach in 2023. When Fangio took the defensive coordinator job with the Eagles in 2024, Kasper followed him again, keeping the same role.
Joe Kasper gets promoted within Eagles' coaching staff
This was an expected outcome for the Eagles as they had to promote Kasper after losing Parker. Kasper has done a nice job in building the secondary with Parker over the last two years.
Reed Blankenship arguably had his best season at safety in 2024 and took on a more leadership role within the defense. Kasper deserves credit for the work he did with rookie Andrew Mukuba and for making him a suitable starter in his first year. Even the work with Marcus Epps, helping him the last month he was replacing Mukuba, was great.
Eagles fans should brace for the fact that this isn't going to last long for the Eagles, as Kasper is going to be another name in the next year or two for defensive coordinator jobs. His work with the secondary has been great to see, and if he can elevate Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean's play in 2026, that will only make him a defensive coordinator quicker.
The big challenge Kasper is going to have is finding the next CB2 and getting him to perform well. Parker did a good job with Adoree' Jackson late in the year, and Kasper will have to work the same magic with whoever the Eagles bring into the building.

This has been a rough offseason for the Eagles' coaching staff so far, with roles not being filled and the loss of top talent, but Kasper's promotion is a nice change of pace for the Fan Base that the fan base needed to hear.
