The Philadelphia Eagles have been rolling in plenty of candidates for the offensive coordinator job, but most have not been exactly ones that fans would get excited about.
During a segment on SportsRadio 94 WIP, Eagles beat reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks was asked about multiple candidates the Eagles have interviewed, but one had more attention than the others. Shorr-Parks was blunt about how he would feel if Philly hired former New York Giants interim head coach and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.
"I think it would be a pretty uninspiring hire. Now, I know that he could be viewed as an upside guy. He at one point, like when he was with the Chiefs, was viewed as maybe the next big thing. Didn't have a ton of success in New York. Again, like a tough situation there. But the offenses weren't that good. He's like limited experience as a play caller. He would just be like a very Eagles hire to me. Like they know him. He would probably fill out a level of safety bringing him into the building, like you know what you're getting with him. There's not much of a worry that maybe he doesn't get along with the people in the building or whatever. I think he's a natural fit to come in, but it just to me, wouldn't feel like you're adding any level of expertise or anything like that."
Would Mike Kafka be a good hire for the Eagles as their OC?
Last season was rough for Kafka, as he went from coaching a rookie quarterback to becoming the team's interim head coach after Brian Daboll's firing. Kafka went 2-5 as the head coach, but actually did a decent job with their offense, ranking 13th in yards and 17th in points.
The Eagles would have an experienced offensive coordinator in Kafka, as he held that position for the Giants since 2022. His offensive unit never finished in the top 10, but 2025 was his best season as an offensive leader.
Some positives with Kafka are that he developed rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart well enough to make him a legitimate starter for the future. Kafka also knows Eagles running back Saquon Barkley well, as he coached him in New York.
A big advantage, though, is that Kafka knows the Eagles well. He was a quarterback for the team for two years after being selected in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

More candidates will come in for the Eagles, but avoiding Kafka would be preferred, as Philly fans still want to see Mike McDaniel or Brian Daboll take the job.
