Eagles' subtle move speaks volumes on how they feel about Dallas Goedert

Is he coming back in 2026?

It almost felt like a foregone conclusion that the Philadelphia Eagles would move on from tight end Dallas Goedert after the 2025 season.

Goedert was nearly traded last offseason and asked to take a $4 million pay cut to get $10 million for the 2025 campaign. Free agency seemed like the logical choice for the tight end, but many Eagles fans were wondering why he hadn't been signed elsewhere yet.

The Athletic's Zach Berman reported that the Eagles pushed back Goedert's void date to March 13. This move is usually made when the team and the player want to work out a contract extension before the player becomes an official free agent.

Are the Eagles showing they want Dallas Goedert back in 2026?

In some aspects, last season was a career year for Goedert. He hit career-highs in receptions (60) and touchdowns (11). Those 11 scores ended up being an Eagles franchise record for touchdowns by a tight end in a season.

One thing about Goedert last year, though, was that he was not as productive with picking up yards on each reception. He finished with 591 yards but averaged a career-low 9.8 yards per reception, the first time in his career he averaged less than 10 yards per reception. To his credit, though, a lot of his touchdowns came from short yards off the Tush Push formation in the red zone.

So far this offseason, the Eagles have added Johnny Mundt from the Jacksonville Jaguars in free agency and also re-signed Grant Calcaterra. Philly still has Cameron Latu on the active roster from last year as well.

Bringing Goedert back will at least give the Eagles a reliable pass catcher at tight end there, and it might have to be a move they need to make. Philly lost out on so many free agent options, including Jaelan Phillips to the Carolina Panthers, Reed Blankenship to the Houston Texans, and Nakobe Dean to the Las Vegas Raiders.

The Eagles need some kind of victory with one of their own players coming back. They have two days to try to get something done with Goedert and keep him in the midnight green uniforms in 2026.
