10 Philadelphia Eagles with no room for error once training camp begins

  • Another training camp approaches.
  • Much of the Eagles 53-man roster is already set in stone.
  • There are no guarantees for the bubble players on the bottom half of the roster.

Greg Ward, wide receiver

The Eagles love Greg Ward, and Greg Ward loves the Eagles. Unfortunately for the former Houston quarterback and AAF standout, that love hasn't translated into consistent job security.

Ward has been a member of two practice squads for two Eagles teams that have qualified to play in the Super Bowl. He has caught 88 passes for the Birds during his tenure.

If we were to guess, we'd place him behind A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Quez Watkins, and Olamide Zaccheaus on the depth chart and in competition with Devon Allen and Britain Covey. The young guys (Tyrie Cleveland, Jadon Haselwood, Joseph Ngata, and Charleston Rambo) are nipping at his heels.

Devon Allen, wide receiver

Devon Allen is a six-foot-one, 190-pound speedster that hasn't played meaningful football in a game that counts toward a win-loss total since his final season at Oregon in 2016. 54 snags that spanned three seasons produced a 17-yard-per-reception average. Sadly, that hasn't translated to the professional level.

He missed OTAs but will be present at training camp. As is the case with the cornerbacks, we expect six Birds to make the 53-man roster at the wide receiver position. A.J., DeVonta, Olamide, and Quez will make this team. The only questions that need to be asked in terms of the self-proclaimed 'fastest man in the NFL' are about whether he can run routes and catch passes. We'll see what happens when we reach the preseason.
