A dozen mishaps from the Eagles Week 6 loss: How many of these are fixable?
By Jake Beckman
The final nails in the Eagles coffin
11. Jake Elliott misses a field goal
Kicker Jake Elliott is just about as automatic as they come and him missing a short 37-yard field goal is just about as odd as DeVonta Smith dropping the ball on a crossing route.
Verdict: This is correctible
The ramifications of this miss were huge. If Jake hits the field goal, then the Eagles are up by five points and then the Eagles don’t even think about trying to throw the ball in their second-to-last drive.
12. Jalen Hurts throws perhaps his worst interception ever
This was the proverbial nail in the Eagles' coffin. It was 3rd-and-9 with less than two minutes left in the game. The Eagles were up by two points, and Brian Johnson dialed up a pass to get a first down and effectively end the game.
There has been a lot of discourse about whether or not the play should have been a run or a pass, but that’s not what we’re going to discuss here. The discussion here is ‘What the hell was Jalen thinking?’ The answer appears to be, ‘Nothing’ and that’s incredibly uncharacteristic of him.
It looked like he felt some phantom pressure from his right, which is fair because that’s where it came from the entire game. He bailed to his left and stared down Dallas Goedert the entire time.
Verdict: This is correctable and it never should have been a problem, but that doesn’t stop it from sucking.
All in all, we're looking at seven issues that are correctable, four issues that are uncorrectable, and one that's a little gray. It's up to you on whether or not that's a good thing, especially when those that are uncorrectable are largely due to injuries. One thing is for sure though: that game really sucked.
