At the time of this story's release, we haven't even reached the end of February. The Super Bowl was a few weeks ago. The Philadelphia Eagles were bounced from postseason contention during the Wild Card Round. We haven't stopped talking about them since.

We've heard stories we wish we hadn't. We've heard rumors. Some of those were refuted by Adam Schefter. Somewhere along the lines, Philly hired two new coordinators. Now the attention shifts to rebuilding the roster. Free agency and the NFL Draft will be avenues for making that happen.

We discussed possible free-agent targets with ties to new defensive coordinator Vic Fangio recently. Let's talk about the other side of the ball now. Here are a few guys who know the O.C. well.

Austin Ekeler, running back

Most of us know Austin Ekeler's story, especially the most recent parts of it. He pushed for a contract extension and then a trade once it became obvious that the L.A. Chargers had no intention of extending him, and now here we are.

Add his name to the list of talented NFL free-agent running backs who are unappreciative of most NFL teams' refusal to heavily invest in their backfield with substantial financial resources.

He's a former undrafted free agent that has proven he belongs. He doesn't fly like he used to, but he is still shifty and one of the game's best receivers out of the backfield. Might the Birds be interested? We'll soon see, but in the meantime, here are a few other possible targets worth discussing.
