Reasonable expectations for the Philadelphia Eagles rushing attack, running backs

  • Running backs are making less money, and their usage is at an all-time low.
  • The Eagles have had one of the best rushing attacks in football under Nick Sirianni.
  • Philadelphia has created a nice mix of fresh faces and returning veterans.
  • There's reason to be excited about these guys with Brian Johnson leading them.

Jalen Hurts headlines the Eagles' rushing attack as one of the NFL's top-tier running quarterbacks

In his first season as a starter in 2021, Jalen Hurts carried the football 139 times and earned 784 yards for his efforts. He was the Eagles' leading rusher by 30 yards and scored ten rushing touchdowns during 15 games. In 2022, he turned in 760 yards and 13 scores on 165 carries during another 15 regular season games.

Hurts also did a phenomenal job showcasing what he can do with his legs during Super Bowl LVII. Philly's signal caller ran for 70 yards, two touchdowns, and punched in a two-point conversion. He also threw for 304 passing yards and one passing touchdown while earning a passer rating of 103.4. The Eagles didn't win unfortunately, but their quarterback played one of the best games of his young career.

In 2023, Hurts seems determined to prove he can be a self-proclaimed 'triple threat'. Not only does he want to be known for his arm and legs, he also wants to show that he has the mind to process the game around him at a high level and take his game to an even higher level.

It seems reasonable to think that Hurts will still see around 150 carries. over 750 rushing yards, and double-digit rushing touchdowns with the roster that has been built around him, but that won't bother anyone if he plays in all 17 regular-season games. Still, even if we see a more pass-heavy offense from the Eagles in 2023, Jalen Hurts is a phenomenal athlete, and it would shock us if Philadelphia didn't use that to their advantage every week.
