Statistical data suggests the Eagles are due for a convincing win over the 49ers
As the Philadelphia Eagles continue to navigate through the most challenging part of their 2023 schedule, their Week 13 matchup matches them against the visiting San Francisco 49ers. It will be Philly's fourth straight game versus an opponent that made it to the divisional round of the playoffs last season. Each team has had a winning record when the Eagles have faced them.
It helps that the 49ers have supplied the Eagles with plenty of bulletin board material before this matchup. Following last season's NFC Championship game, one where Philly defeated San Francisco by a score of 31-7, an anonymous 49er told the San Francisco Chronicle "It felt like once Purdy got hurt, someone at the league offices called down and said 'Make sure the Eagles get to the Super Bowl and not the 49ers'".
San Fran's wide receiver duo of Brandon Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel have also spoken about the Eagles publicly. Aiyuk appeared on a podcast a week before the Super Bowl to say that the Eagles "Got extremely lucky" and claimed the Chiefs would expose the Eagles in the Super Bowl while deeming the 49ers the best team in the NFL.
Samuel told reporters that the Eagles were his "most hated team,". He also said the 49ers played with ten players in the NFC Championship Game and called cornerback James Bradberry "trash.", comments to which the 2022 Second-Team All-Pro responded with class and dignity.
Following the antics and comments made by 49ers players over the months since the NFC Championship Game, a victory in Week 13 would feel even better for Eagles fans. Despite the 8-3 Niners likely being another tough team to defeat, history suggests that the Birds may be able to outplay yet another contender in 2023.
Some of the stats suggest the same thing. Buckle up everyone. Pull up a seat. You just might learn something.
