When is the Eagles' bye week in 2024, and how will it impact their season?

The Eagles get a bye in Week 5 of the NFL's regular season. This one comes, obviously, at an early portion of the season.

Live long enough, and you'll learn the value of rest. That's true in football. Heck, that's true if you're a civilian. Often, we take time to talk to Philadelphia Eagles and football players at every level about the challenges of playing a contact sport. The answers are pretty consistent.

Younger players see their bodies recover more swiftly. They're cool in a day or so. High schoolers play on Friday and are cool by the following Wednesday. For guys in college, the bruises heal more slowly.

They tend to play on Saturday, but once the following Saturday arrives, many state they're slowly trending towards feeling better. That isn't everyone's story though.

The more common consensus is guys are playing through injury. That's also the more common at the professional level.

We expect the Eagles will need a break after the first month of the season, but that doesn't mean we're happy they're receiving one.

When the NFL releases its official schedule every May, we learn the answers to so many of the questions that we have asked during the offseason. The dates and times of every Eagles game are revealed. We also learn when every team's bye week is. That too is important. Again... Everyone needs to rest sometimes.

This time around, Philly's week of rest comes early as their bye week falls after the first month of action. They tackle the Green Bay Packers in Week 1 before returning home to battle the Atlanta Falcons on Monday Night Football in Week 2. Two road games follow versus NFC South competition.

The New Orleans Saints welcome Philly in Week 3. Raymond James Stadium provides the backdrop for a bout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 4. Philly is off after that. Their bye week falls in Week 5

Truthfully, we expected something like this might happen. Philly's break came in Week 10 a year ago. With that said, we were under the impression that an early break might be possible, but having one this early might not be beneficial.

This team is loaded with veteran leadership, so they'll press on and endure. Unfortunately, this also means the Birds have a long haul after the break.

13 consecutive games is a tough ask for any team. You've seen Philly's schedule. They aren't playing a ton of cupcakes.

This will be a war of attrition, one we expect our Birds will conquer. Hopefully, this won't throw too much of a wrench in the plan.
