The Philadelphia Eagles fan base would officially like to welcome back Riq Woolen into the picture at training camp.
Woolen had an explosive OTAs and was no doubt the MVP of the three weeks. Things have gone very differently for him at training camp, though, as he has been mainly quiet with not many highlight plays. There have been more negative plays than anything, which has started some fans to be concerned.
It feels as though things were taking a bad turn on Day 1 of the Eagles' joint practice with the New England Patriots, as Woolen did not have a good day. That didn't last long, though, as wow. He bounced back nicely.
Riq Woolen made his presence known big time at Eagles-Patriots joint practice
NBC Sports Philadelphia Eagles reporter Dave Zangaro shared his thoughts on what he saw during the second day of the Eagles-Patriots joint practice. Zangaro highlighted Woolen's great play, arguably the best of the day.
"Riq Woolen had tight coverage against A.J. Brown on a slant and Drake Maye tried to burn it in there. The ball got batted up in the air and Jalyx Hunt made a diving interception to get the defense off the field. It was so quick that the Pats’ O got another chance at a drive and scored when Woolen and Marcus Epps collided on what looked like a rub route from the Pats. But they needed an extra chance to get into the end zone.
Both Woolen and Hunt had very good days. More on them in a moment."

Cue the Spongebob Squarepants line: "One moment later....."
"One of the highlights of practice came when Riq Woolen picked off a Drake Maye pass intended for A.J. Brown near the goal line. Woolen made a great break on the ball and returned it the other way for what likely would have been a 99-yard pick-6. After a rough performance on Wednesday, Woolen rebounded in a major way. He did give up a touchdown to Romeo Doubs, but had a pass breakup on a fade to Doubs a little earlier."
Last season with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, Woolen racked up 41 tackles, one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, 12 pass deflections, and one interception. He signed a one-year, $12 million contract with the Eagles in the offseason.
It was the kind of bounce-back day that Woolen needed not only for the joint practice, but for all of training camp. He showed a lot of the types of plays that he made during OTAs that had everyone in the Eagles building buzzing around him.
Now the big question is how Woolen will do the rest of training camp, and whether he can carry that momentum into the regular season. Consistency is going to be the key for the Eagles' new CB2, as he needs to prove that he can do it day after day. That was one of the main issues with him last season in Seattle.

Woolen has every right to feel good about himself and what he did for the Eagles, but everyone wants to see how he will respond the rest of training camp from this great day of work.
