An unlikely Eagles rival surprisingly came to Jalen Hurts' defense

Really???

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has been under the microscope this offseason, with many starting to doubt his ability to be an NFL starting quarterback.

Some have wondered where these questions have come from and why it's happening now. Shockingly, one person asking this is former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Irvin, who was recently asked about his thoughts on the Eagles' offense but made sure to defend Hurts in the process.

"I'm worried, and I hope my worries are valid. You know what I mean? Only because it's a new offense. When you're running a new offense, you need that guy that said, I don't know if this play is going to work, but I can go to him if it breaks down. What I'm shocked about is the treatment of Jalen Hurts. Why is that like this, right? Why, why are you guys trying to get rid of Jalen Hurts already?"

Michael Irvin stood up for Jalen Hurts with some valid questions

It's fair from Irvin despite it coming from someone who loves the Cowboys. This offseason has felt very much like that, but it is more coming from the media than the Eagles fan base.

One ESPN article had sources criticizing Hurts for being "uncoachable" and changing plays in the huddle. There were discussions about Hurts not getting a contract extension, as the Eagles want him to prove himself worthy to the organization. Most recently, Hurts was ranked outside the top-10 quarterbacks in an NFL survey by ESPN.

Everyone seems to have forgotten the kind of work Hurts has put in since becoming the team's starting quarterback late in his rookie season back in 2020. He has been selected to three Pro Bowls, won 69% of his regular season starts, been to two Super Bowls, won one Super Bowl, and was named Super Bowl MVP.

Many NFL fans might find that part redundant, but it is an important piece of information that seems to be always forgotten about when talking about Hurts. He was the man who led the Eagles to all that success since 2021, so why isn't he getting the credit he deserves?

It's a pretty bad look when a Dallas Cowboys player and supporter over the last three decades is the one defending a rival's quarterback. He's right, though, that people need to stop trying to push Hurts out, as he is the right man for the Eagles' starting quarterback job.
