The only trouble? His 23 year old girlfriend as recently as January 2015, Suki Waterhouse, wanted to focus on her career. Their recent split was amicable, but definitive. Cooper wants to place his mark on the world, by leaving a legacy. The timing of the friendship with Jeffrey Lurie could not have come at a better moment, a landmark moment, in the actor’s life.
You see, the words to the video began to hit him. This is more than a team. It’s a family. It’s OUR family! What if the legacy, for now, was not a family, but something recognizable to anyone born in the city of Philadelphia? What better legacy can a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles leave behind than a share of the Eagles team? Yes, I’m talking OWNERSHIP.

As Suki Waterhouse and Bradley Cooper cooled and walked their separate ways, Bradley Cooper was already working with new found friend Jeffrey Lurie on something bigger, and more secretive, than any Hollywood movie plot. It seems that when the actor agreed to make the videos for the Eagles, he jokingly said in passing that he expected a phone call if Lurie ever wanted a partner. Well, at the end of the 2014 season, the non-playoff Eagles team had caused the owner to consider Cooper’s offer. And so, that call was made.
The other side of the equation is why now? Jeffrey Lurie is an independantly wealthy businessman now, but his roots were the film and entertainment industries. His family fortune can be directly traced back to the General Cinema chain from his grandfather. After college, he joined the family business which was now headed by his uncle, Richard Smith.
There he served as a liason between the theatre and movie production in hollywood. In 1985, we would eventually form his own production company as Chestnut Hill Productions. With the blessing of his family, Lurie borrowed an estimated $190 Million to buy the Philadelphia Eagles from then owner Norman Braman.

But Lurie has never been able to mingle his passion for football with his love of Hollywood… until now…
The reason nothing has surfaced prior to this was the fact that everyone caught wind of something “big” about to happen, but nobody knew just how big things had gotten. Part of the initial conditions that Cooper asked of Lurie to demonstrate his sincerity in the proposal was to do something Lurie could never bring himself to do before: remove Howie Roseman from the general manager role and replace him with new head coach Chip Kelly. So many caught wind of the story before the actual move happened, but nobody followed the bread crumbs…
