The Storyline continues…

With Bradley Cooper interested, and the general manager role has switched to Chip Kelly, it’s all clear now?  Not so fast my friend….
The current value of the Philadelphia Eagles franchise in approximately $1.85 Billion, and was last rated as the seventh most valuable franchise on the market.  Bradley Cooper, who is one of the hottest Hollywood commodities, is currently estimated to be worth approximately $60 Million.

That’s a huge difference.

But remember that he asked about an ownership position, not to outright buy the team.  Minority interests have happened as recently as 2007, where a unanimous vote approved the 20 percent minority sale of the Oakland Raiders to a group of investors.  There were a number of private meetings discussing various ownership matters this year, some of which have already been made public – such as the NFL interest in locating a team in the Los Angeles market in the very near future.  Some matters were discussed with more security.  The sale of a minority interest of the Philadelphia Eagles would certainly fall under that category.

But there are two parties to this discussion.  While one was involved in business with the NFL owners meeting, the other was backstage starring on Broadway as the lead to the hit show “The Elephant Man”.  Backstage talks happens, and it covers a wide range of topics….  But when a Philadelphia born actor mentions the Philadelphia Eagles and a chance to “buy in”, New York residents take notice.  And the story made it’s way to my ear….

So why would the long standing owner of the Philadelphia Eagles pursue a sale of any ownership interest?  It could be a natural event of building diversity.  It could be as an act of friendship.  It certainly did have the owners talking.  I really don’t know.  But there is one thing that I DO know:  Happy April’s Fools Day from all of us here at Inside The Iggles!
