3. “Sammy Sleeves” is traded eight days before the start of the 2016 season.

If you saw this one coming, you should really consider moving to Vegas and looking for work at one of the casinos. Nothing about this move made any sense when it happened. First of all, Bradford had just signed a two-year, $36 million contract extension with the Eagles on March 1st of 2016. Chase Daniel was supposed to be his backup. Wentz was supposed to, essentially, play the role of redshirt quarterback in his rookie season.

Things just didn’t work out that way, and the Wentz era in Philly began much sooner than any of us believed was possible.

The Eagles, who had just given up their first round pick in 2017 to the Cleveland Browns for the right to draft Wentz, managed to convince the Minnesota Vikings that Bradford was worth giving up a first-round pick of their own. Just like that, the Eagles had worked their way back into the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Bradford was dealt, and he made his first start in week two against the Green Bay Packers. When the season concluded, he had thrown for 3,877 yards and 20 touchdowns. The Vikings, who began the season with a record of 5-0, lost some steam late and finished with a mark of 8-8.

That gave Philly the 14th-overall selection in 2017’s draft. With that selection the Eagles would take Derek Barnett of the Tennessee Volunteers. It appears the Eagles knew what they were doing after all.
