Philadelphia Eagles: 4 players who are primed for a comeback season
Jay Ajayi, RB
Wait, nobody actually thought that the Eagles had seen the best of Jay Ajayi, right? The former fifth-round pick has had quite the roller coaster of a career as he heads into year four in the NFL. Ajayi started his career off with the Miami Dolphins. In his second season, he established himself as one of the leagues top rushers with 1,272-yards and eight rushing touchdowns in 2016.
It didn’t take long for things to go South for Ajayi down in South Beach, though. The young rusher was sent off hours before the trade deadline in 2017 to land on the eventual Super Bowl Champions roster. Ajayi was welcomed into Philadelphia with open arms. But he was followed by a ton of criticism about his attitude and health concerns.
Before coming to Philly, Ajayi was struggling significantly behind a beat down Dolphins line. In fact, he didn’t even reach the end zone once until he got behind the Eagles elite offensive line. While Ajayi looked decent with his opportunities, we ain’t’ seen nothin’ yet.
Last year, the backfield was headlined by LeGarrette Blount. Now, Ajayi looks to be the face of the Eagles rushing committee. He may not receive the 19 rushes-per-game that he took in Miami. But his limited role, and a full offseason in Philadelphia can be sure to send Ajayi nowhere but up from here.
