Nathan Gerry, LB

Former Nebraska safety Nathan Gerry was hardly a factor for the Eagles Super Bowl run last season. The safety-turned-linebacker didn’t get called up to the active roster until starting middle linebacker Jordan Hicks ruptured his Achilles midway through the season. When Gerry arrived on the 53-man roster, he was nothing more than a special teamer.

Gerry is a different type of player this time around. Knowing that Mychal Kendricks is officially out of the picture, Gerry is making a case for himself to get into the rotation. We all expected veteran linebacker Corey Nelson to get the spot last week. But as long as Gerry keeps doing what he’s doing, he could win himself some part-time snaps next to Jordan Hicks and Nigel Bradham.

The Eagles are doing all they can to feed opportunities to Gerry. So far, he hasn’t disappointed. Eagles reporter Chris McPherson gave us word that Gerry’s peers are highly impressed with the second-year veteran. Gerry’s teammate Nigel Bradham credited the linebacker’s instincts. He stated that “Gerry’s knowledge of the defense is right up there with the veterans in the locker room. Some high praise from the player who led the team in tackles last year.
