Philadelphia Eagles have an interesting battle at weak side linebacker
Corey Nelson
When the Eagles signed Corey Nelson as a free agent from the Denver Broncos, it was believed that he would be brought in to provide depth at the position as well as provide special teams coverage. With the injury to Worrilow, he, now, finds himself as one of the favorites to take over as one of the starters.
Nelson doesn’t have a ton of on-field experience, but that’s better than a lot of the other candidates can say. Defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is reportedly a fan of Nelson’s but he’s also been quoted as saying that Philly will embrace the open competition at the position (no surprise there).
Nelson may be more of a natural fit at the middle linebacker position, but he has as good as shot as any to take the spot on the outside. Joe Walker could be another option, but the team will, most likely, keep him where he is, as a solid backup to Jordan Hicks given the uncertainty of Hicks’ health.
