5 Thoughts on Christian Hackenberg signing with the Philadelphia Eagles
1.He was brought in because Philly thought he could compete.
Despite being selected 51st overall in 2016 (that’s 49 spots after Carson Wentz), Hackenberg has never taken a snap in an NFL game. That’s zero snaps. Not one time has it ever happened. The New York Jets gave up on him after two seasons.
He found his way to the Oakland Raiders on May 22nd of this year thanks to the Jets’ decision to trade him for a conditional 2019 seventh rounder. That doesn’t say much about what they believed his value to be, does it? It didn’t even take a month for the Raiders to waive him. That killed the Jets deal, and after clearing waivers, ‘Hack’ was a free agent.
Okay, we don’t think he’s ever been called ‘Hack’, but we like the sound of it. Bear with us for a sec.
What’s the point you ask? This is Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and the team’s executive vice president of football operations, Howie Roseman, we’re discussing. There are no place holders on this team, and ‘Hack’ wouldn’t be here if Pederson and Roseman didn’t believe that he could make this team better in some way.
Wait a sec. He’s got no shot to make the roster right? Let’s mull that one over for a few ticks.
