Nick Foles, QB

Let’s not waste time here. Obviously the quarterback play in this game is going to be critical for the Eagles. We all know just how good Nick Foles can be. Unfortunately, we also know just how bad he can be when he’s not on a hot streak.

The good news is that Foles seems to thrive during more prominent games. Considering the stakes this week, I’d say a playoff game is a pretty big matchup. We’ve seen Foles play very average in the postseason (see New Orleans 2013, Atlanta 2017) and we’ve seen him play at a very high level as well (remember the NFC Championship and the Super Bowl?)

Which Nick Foles will we get this Sunday? Hopefully, the one that makes every big throw and is on pace to break single-game records. Foles does head into Sunday’s game with an injury to his ribs from the last two weeks, but head coach Doug Pederson makes it clear that the quarterback is fine. Over the last few days, Foles’ ribs have healed a lot quicker than he thought and he seems more than ready to play this week.

The big matchup this week hasn’t exactly been promoted as a Nick Foles versus Mitchell Trubisky shootout, but there’s a good chance that the second-year quarterback in Chicago will have to be prepared for one. Whether the Bears have the number one defense in the playoffs right now or not, we all know that stat means nothing when it’s a new season. One of Foles’ best qualities is the fact that he can tune out all of the hype surrounding a top-tier unit. Don’t think this week will be any different.
