2. Hurts seems like an upgrade compared to Sudfeld

Remember all of the excitement around this time last year over Sudfeld appearing to be the long-term option for the Eagles at backup quarterback?

One can only imagine how different things would have been at this very moment for Sudfeld if he never suffered that broken wrist last August during preseason, but also this isn’t going to prevent the Indiana product putting up a battle for the No. 2 job.

In a way, a strong case can be made that Sudfeld seems to have a slight edge over Hurts at the moment due to being in the league longer, but also keep in mind that he has only appeared in three games over the years without a single start.

As bad as it sounds, the decision to only sign Sudfeld to a one-year deal this offseason seems to make more sense now since Philadelphia apparently wanted to keep all options open in case someone better came along during the draft.

Hurts has yet to take a single snap in the NFL, but once training camp and preseason arrives towards the end of Summer, it shouldn’t take long for him to show he is an upgrade over Sudfeld as far as backup quarterback is concerned.
