Philadelphia Eagles: 3 Realistic expectations for Jalen Hurts in Year 2
Jalen Hurts runs for 750 yards on the season.
By now, you’ve probably lived long enough and watched enough football to know that it’s sometimes treated like a flaw when a quarterback possesses the ability to tuck the ball and run. Then again, in today’s NFL, that isn’t a bad trait to have. That is as long as the Birds’ signal-caller knows when to get down and accept the fact that the play is over.
During the 2020-2021 season, as a rookie, Hurts stacked 354 yards on 63 carries, whether that be by design or necessity. By doing so, he reached the first-down marker 25 times, and he found his way into the end zone three times.
Now, that he’s the starter and he’ll get 12 more starts than he got a season ago, 750 yards rushing seems like a rather reasonable request. As a matter of fact, it looks like a target number that Hurts should reach fairly easily. Hopefully, he won’t be relied upon to run as much, but the Birds can’t ignore that this young man is athletic enough to make a few splash plays if he tucks the ball and takes off.
