The Philadelphia Eagles cornerback battle past three guys is wide open.

This just in. The Philadelphia Eagles still haven’t figured out the cornerback position. Now, how long have we been saying that? It feels like this has been going on since Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown left town.

Nnamdi Asomugha was a disaster, and in all honesty, it feels like he should have been forced to pay the team some money back. Chip Kelly liked big guys that couldn’t play. Howie Roseman and Doug Pederson’s regime once took a flier on a second-rounder and basically gave him a redshirt (Sidney Jones IV), and ever since, stating the Eagles need help at the cornerback position has become an annual tradition.

At the time of this story being published, Philly has nine cornerbacks and two more defensive backs on the roster. Darius Slay, Avonte Maddox, and the rookie, Zech McPhearson, are in. It feels like Kevon Seymour should make the squad. Past that, nothing stands out about anyone, other than the fact that we already know Craig James, and this team’s fanbase is still ticked at Michael Jacquet for that Dallas game last year.

We know that this team likes Grayland Arnold. We also know that he appeared in six games a season ago, started one, and should probably play safety, but you never know. In looking at what Philly has, he should be right in the mix to make this team as the Birds’ sixth cornerback.
