What happened to the buzz that Alex Singleton built with this Eagles team?

2022 status: Restricted free agent

Driving from Philadelphia to Calgary, if you were inclined to do so, would take you one day and nine hours. After going undrafted and seeing three NFL teams in two seasons, Alex Singleton spent 2016 to 2018 in the CFL as a member of the Calgary Stampeders.

He was a CFL All-Star in 2017 and 2018. He won the Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award in 2017. He was a part of a team that won the Grey Cup in 2018.

The Eagles signed Singleton and his CFL teammate Marken Michel on January 7th of 2019. He immediately won over the fans and his teammates with his blue-collar work ethic, racking up 120 total tackles, two sacks, and an interception in 16 games with 11 starts.

The Eagles placed a one-year exclusive-rights free agent tender on him on March 1st that he signed on March 25th. His teammates voted for him to be a team captain for the 2021 season in September. He’s been trying to prove to a new coaching staff that he belongs ever since.

Singleton can ball. Though some seem to have forgotten that, the statement is still factual. T.J. Edwards has emerged though. This team’s coaching staff loves Davion Taylor. Shaun Bradley is also in the fold.

The theory is, when Taylor returns from injury in 2022, that he’s the guy that this team wants as part of their long-term plans. What does that mean for Singleton? Well, no one knows really, but here’s what we can say. If Alex isn’t back in 2022, no one should be surprised.
