After the way the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive line performed during the 2025 season, the door has been opened to adding more depth to the line.
Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson, center Cam Jurgens, and right tackle Lane Johnson dealt with injuries all season, with Johnson missing the most time with eight games. It was an eye-opening moment for the Eagles that they did not have the depth equipped to handle these kinds of problems.
Even with Johnson and Dickerson reportedly coming back for the 2026 season after considering retirement, the Eagles know they have to do some work and might have a chance to bring back a familiar face. Reports have come in that the Los Angeles Chargers' right guard, Mekhi Becton, is expected to be cut, and while this seems like the perfect solution for the Eagles, they might want to pump the brakes on bringing him back.
A Mekhi Becton reunion shouldn't happen after one telling stat
Becton was great in his only season with the Eagles in 2024, starting at right guard after playing left tackle his entire career with the New York Jets. He was able to give his career a second life, which helped him land a nice deal with the Chargers to be their right guard.
That move hasn't really worked out for the Chargers this season, as Becton put up some poor numbers. How bad? Scoutdnfl.com founder Daniel Rotman posted on X pressure rate percentages for all offensive linemen, and Becton's was not ideal: he ranked 31st out of 32 guards at 8.33%.
Eagles fans were looking at Becton as an option since Tyler Steen hasn't been great at right guard, and maybe Becton can come in and replace him. Well, Steen was ranked 29th with a pressure rate was 6.11%, so that's not really an improvement at all.

It was a nice idea while it lasted with Becton, but the Eagles are better off just letting it go and selecting some young guys in the NFL Draft to develop.
