An Eagles drought dating back to last season evokes a Julio Jones mention

Call us crazy, but ever since Nick Sirianni took the reigns as Philadelphia Eagles head coach, each season has brought at least two unexplainable losses. Then, there are those torturous affairs where Philly can't do anything right. The team looks unprepared, and games are extremely tough to watch.

We're four games into the season. We have seen a collapse on Monday Night Football versus what should be an inferior team. This past Sunday, the Birds were annihilated.

We knew Philly was in for a rough day when the Bucs scored a touchdown on their first drive. Eventually, the Eagles found themselves in a 24-0 hole. We determined this may not be one of their better showings.

Many factors determine the outcome of a football game. Allowing the opposing team's offense to end so many drives with touchdowns is often a recipe for disaster.

It doesn't help that the Eagles didn't score TDs of their own. This offense must gain better traction, but upon further review, these slow starts are representative of an issue we have seen since last season.

The Eagles haven't scored a first-quarter touchdown since Week 17 of last season. Guess who the recipient was.

Do not adjust your computer monitors. There's no need to restart devices. This is not a drill, and we double-checked before speaking. Philadelphia hasn't scored a first-quarter touchdown since New Year's Eve. That was Week 17 of last season.

Julio Jones was the recipient. Think about that for a second. While you do, we enter exhibit A into evidence.

Six games have been played since then. One was a playoff clash, The opponent in that one... The Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That was also a beatdown, one where Philly looked unprepared. The result was a 32-9 final score.

Todd Bowles and the Bucs defense have had Jalen Hurts' number for a while. That's a story for another time, but that does place a thought on our minds. We aren't saying Julio needs to return or anything, but what we are saying is this.

This offense is too talented and has too many playmakers to suffer through so many droughts. This needs to get fixed. We expect more out of the bye week.
