Devon Witherspoon vs. Jalen Carter
This isn’t a matchup between players who are going to see a lot of head-to-head action. As a matter of fact, they won't even be on the same field at the same time. It’s still one of the more important conversations we'll be having, during this game and after.
Devon Witherspoon and Jalen Carter are EASILY the two front runners for the NFL's Defensive Rookie of the Year Award. Carter is still the favorite, but he’s had a relatively quiet past few weeks.
Yeah, he had the fumble recovery for a touchdown versus the Dallas Cowboys, and that will probably go a long way in helping him win the award, but he’s hit a little bit of a slump as a defensive tackle. Some have even said he has hit a rookie wall.
Devon Witherspoon on the other hand, has been playing pretty well through November and December. If he can get his hands on a few passes and affect some throws tossed in A.J. Brown or DeVonta Smith's direction, it will say a lot in helping him make his case.
Again, this game is in prime time on Monday Night Football, so they will both be getting a big spotlight. If either player has a good and/or productive game, it won't just strengthen their DROY chances. It will also go a long way in helping their side score the win. In the end, that's truly what matters.
