The NFL is still reeling from the stunning news that the Buffalo Bills fired their head coach, Sean McDermott.
This is the kind of move that can have a significant impact on the current coaching carousel, with 10 head coach openings now. It will also have a massive impact on the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator search, with one of their top candidates, Brian Daboll, now being named as a top candidate for the Bills' head coaching job.
It does present an interesting situation for the Eagles: if Daboll is out of the running, maybe the Bills have guys on their coaching staff who would interest Philly. Looking at a coach like the Bills' offensive coordinator Joe Brady might open up a new possibility for the Eagles that they never imagined.
Joe Brady would be the perfect fit for the Eagles
Brady took over as the Bills' offensive coordinator late in the 2023 season after Ken Dorsey got fired. The Bills' offense completely changed from a pass-heavy scheme to one where Brady implemented a more balanced attack, which brought better results. Instead of focusing on one player to throw it to, the passing game became an "everybody eats" mantra with an established running game.
This is exactly what the Eagles need to feed Saquon Barkley the ball more on the ground and take the pressure off Jalen Hurts to throw it. Brady is also a fan of running QB-designed runs, which fit the skill set that Hurts had.
Philly lost track of its identity offensively when Kevin Patullo was the offensive coordinator, leading to inconsistent play calls and the unit struggling in the second half of games. After one season of dysfunction, Patullo was removed as offensive coordinator.

The Bills ranked first in the NFL in rushing in 2025, with running back James Cook leading the league in rushing. Philly could learn a lot from Brady, which is why he makes sense to hire for the job if given the chance.
