Part II: Becoming a family

More from Inside the Iggles

When most of us go to work, we can attest to the fact that we’d like to get along with co-workers, but if we can’t, that’s fine too. Our livelihoods are more important than our individual relationships in the building. With a football team, it’s no different. These are their careers. This is their job. It’s not uncommon for teammates to be nothing more than ‘coworkers’.

The Eagles are a team that’s littered with great guys. There’s everything from Carson Wentz’s A01 Foundation to Malcolm Jenkins‘ tireless quest to create social change to Chris Long‘s decision to donate his entire salary to charity. This is truly one of the most likable Eagles teams of all time, and when they win, it almost feels like they deserve it.

This team genuinely loves one another, and they cheer for one another’s success.

Here’s what head coach Doug Pederson had to say on the topic.

"We’ve lost some talented guys, some starters, some role guys, specific guys, but for me, it was probably through some of that adversity early in the year, middle of the season that we kind of kept things together and we were figuring out how to win a game or two or three and we got on a little bit of a roll. About that time, you kind of knew that, alright, this is a pretty special team. The sky is the limit with these guys."

Now, as the only top-seeded to team in NFL history to reach the Super Bowl after being the underdog in every game they’ve played in, the Eagles are in position to deliver a Lombardi Trophy to ‘The City of Brotherly Love’. If there was ever an Eagles team that deserved to win it all, it’s this one. They’ll have to earn it. It won’t be given to them, but this Eagles team is one everyone can cheer for, not just Eagles fans.

This version of the Eagles will never be forgotten by any fan of this team. That’s true regardless of what happens on Super Bowl Sunday, but who are we kidding? Eagles fans are hoping for a win, and all they need is one more.
